About

The Poetry Room is a collection of poems about being human, about love, grief, wonder, time, memory, friendship, becoming, growing older, and the ordinary moments that shape our lives without our noticing. Poems like Before This Becomes Memory, The World Is Held Together by Small Love, A Miracle in a Hoodie, The Heart's Oldest Hunger, One Day You'll Miss This Version of Your Life, and The Ordinary Days We Miss Most. Many people think poetry is difficult, something reserved for literature classes and people who call themselves poets. At Among Roses, we believe it is far simpler than that. Poetry is what happens when a feeling finally finds language. It gives shape to the things that are hardest to explain: the ache of missing someone, the beauty of an ordinary morning, the strange experience of growing older, the wonder of being alive at all. The neuroscience is lovely. Research suggests that poetry lights up not only the language centers of the brain but the areas tied to memory, emotion, imagination, and self-reflection, so a single line can call back a memory, create a vivid image, and help you feel something you could not quite reach before. Poetry slows you down and asks you to notice, to feel, to sit with an experience instead of rushing past it. This room is for the dreamers, the feelers, the romantics, and anyone who has ever struggled to put a feeling into words. Because sometimes a poem does not tell you anything new. It simply reminds you that you are not alone.
