Everyone thinks they know this flower. Almost nobody does. You have been handed the rose your whole life. In cellophane at a petrol station, on a card in February, at a wedding and at a funeral. You know exactly what it is supposed to mean, and you were never once told what it actually is. So we take all of that off it and start again with the plant. Sixteen rooms of botany, scent, history, food, art and memory. You will find out that the rose has no thorns, and what it has instead. That it makes fruit. That the most beautiful roses in the world are the ones we bred until they could barely do the thing they were for. You will make rose water that is genuinely rose water, cook something, spend three real minutes looking at one flower, and let one go over on your table instead of throwing it out on the fourth day. And underneath all of it, the rose keeps handing you questions about your own life, because it turns out to be almost embarrassingly good at that. What have you called a flaw because nobody taught you its real name. What have you developed because something in you needed protecting. Who told you that your most valuable season was your bloom. There is no order to any of this. Come in on the evening you have, and choose the room that calls to you. Most of the year, the rose is not doing the thing we love it for. It is still entirely a rose.
